Mr & Mrs Brooks
Mrs. Robinson has grown up and turned to comedy. Anne Bancroft (Mrs. Mel Brooks) is an outstanding comedienne. Don't let the beginning put you off-stick with it. And Best Supporting Actor Oscar winner Charles Durning. Mel for once in a STARRING role, although George Gaynes steals the show (Police Academy commandant Lazard). Wonderful musical, treats a serious subject with extreme slapstick ...

Solid historical epic on 2nd century Rome.
A very enjoyable movie with good period detail and enough history to be well above the typical sword and sandal movie.

Haunting Parable of US Race Relations
The movie reeks of a certain kind of social realism that would later, in the 1950s, bloom into such "classics" as REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE, SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS, THE WILD ONE, etc, but LOST BOUNDARIES fascinates because of its race theme and the way n which it employs white actors to pass as black, even while the characters are black passing for white. Alfred Werker, the director, brings a ...

A timeless classic
War and Peace is without a doubt, a timeless classic. We chose to obtain this version to share it with Katya and Nadya, young adults who are now studying this period in history. This Tolstoy's classic is wonderfully played by Audrey Hepburn as Natasha, a young woman who experiences the hardships of war. Henry Fonda provides a great performance as he lives through and observes Napoleon's ...

Arguably the best war movie ever made
Some critics agree with me -- this is one of the very best. I first time I saw this movie was shortly after it was released, and it continues to hold my attention 40+ years later. While some may think it's boring, not enough action ... well, that's the way war is. This movie shows the complicated planning and thought that went into the D-Day invasion. The hours upon hours of boredom. And ...

Worth the Oscar
In 1953, one of the lush, colorful musicals came out starring Leslie Caron as a French waif. Since she was truly French, could truly dance, and truly could break your heart without a word, the casting was superb. Her foil, romantically, was Mel Ferrer. With his sculpted face and cynical manner, he was perfect as Paul, the reclusive puppeteer who lives vicariously through his puppets. The music ...

"But Who Is Scaramouche? And Why Does He Hide His Face Behind a Mask?"
Red-headed Eleanore Parker asks this question to a masked Stewart Granger onstage, when the latter unintentionally joins a tatty traveling troupe of commedia dell'arte actors. She kisses him; recognizes him; and slaps him in the face! Then the rest of the film focuses upon the quest of Andre Moreau (Granger) not only for revenge upon the Count Noel des Maines (Mel Ferrer)--the greatest swordsman ...

Pretty good
The Fifth Floor is an engaging piece of work that was much better than I expected. Using a tag line like "From the disco floor to the insane asylum" is asking for trouble but the film deserves better than that. Dianne Hull plays Kelly, a friendly girl who works at a disco club (not sure what as!), who has a sudden seizure one night while dancing and is rushed to hospital. When it is found that ...

Fritz Lang Makes An Ordinary Story Lyrical
The interesting thing about Fritz Lang's western "Rancho Notorious" (1952) is that it is very interesting. Mostly that is style over substance because the story is rather routine and the cast is nothing to write home about. Yet somehow the way Lang tells the story transforms this film into something very special. Flashbacks were nothing new, even in 1952, but Lang uses them very efficiently at ...

Excellent example of HOLLYWOOD at its best in a semi-historic epic about when Knighthood was in flower. Robert Taylor is at his best and the supporting cast is right from the A-List of Hollywood stars. EXCELLENT MOVIE!

GREAT FILM BUT...
This is definitley one of the best horror films i have ever seen. It is beautiful, lush, and a bit scary at some parts. Its more of a gothic romance than a 60's horror. I only wish they would transfer this awesome film onto DVD someday soon... its to good to be stuck on VHS. I'm giving it 5 stars for the movie itself, not the fact its on VHS.
