Lowers blood pressure painlessly
We continue to await the DVD (in America) release of this instantly relaxing film. It quickly becomes a "comfort movie" like "White Christmas" and "Meet Me in St. Louis." Tougher than usual day? Get thee to Italy for a month(really just a couple of hours) with these beautifully painted characters. Fine performances, cinematography and music become a tone poem of sensuality, warmth, hope, ...

Island of the Blue Dolphins601 reviews
Celia Kaye, Larry Domasin

Universal Studios, 1998

A Warm Novel
I read Island of The Blue Dolphins sometime before Christmas this year. It was a pleasure to read--it was simple, brief, and the characters were fresh and realistic. O' Dell used very descriptive writing, nevertheless, it did not go to where it is tedious to read because of the overload of words. If you do not like novels without much action besides attacks with sea critters I would not ...

Lili41 reviews
Leslie Caron, Mel Ferrer

MGM (Warner), 1994

Worth the Oscar
In 1953, one of the lush, colorful musicals came out starring Leslie Caron as a French waif. Since she was truly French, could truly dance, and truly could break your heart without a word, the casting was superb. Her foil, romantically, was Mel Ferrer. With his sculpted face and cynical manner, he was perfect as Paul, the reclusive puppeteer who lives vicariously through his puppets. The music ...

Phil Harris, Sebastian Cabot

Walt Disney Video, 1997

A bear s life is for me.
It s the perfect movie to teach kids about jungle animals and have a great time all in one, great songs that just make you dance all around and a lot of comedy which I like. Great message about friendship and the right thing to do.

Fantasia204 reviews
Leopold Stokowski, Deems Taylor

Walt Disney Video, 1992

Brilliant
I have never seen the original version, so my point of view will probably differ. It is a glorious combination of spectacular animation and music. The was flowers and water lilies dance and the underwater scenes with beautiful sometimes translucent fish tales is gorgeous. I found it very entertaining and also very relaxing.

Pass the popcorn around as you watch this movie. It is a sweet movie about finding love late in life and learning to live again.

Scarlett (Special Collector's Editon)196 reviews
Joanne Whalley, Timothy Dalton

Hallmark, 1997

Scarlett, the book
Great book. Written in sense of "Gone with the Wind." Good character development. Really saw the growth of Scarlet, from self-centered child to caring young woman. Always had the feeling, unlike the film, that it was Scarlet and Rhett. Set in Irish history background.

They need to make this movie on DVD
I was so happy to find this movie but the price was outrageous. I got it for my sisters birthday because her and this movie go way back. I guess it was worth the amount of money just because in my family it is a classic. They really need to make this movie on a DVD though because they last longer. This movie is so funny and just amazing. If you haven't seen it then I would suggest you rent it ...

extraordinary is an understatment
I accidently started to watch this movie years ago,by the time 15 minutes went by it became dear to me.If you get the message it is massively moving, if you don't unless you have no emotion or sense you will still be moved by the mere beauty of it all.the scene with Berrenger flying drunk is outstanding, the music is devine and sheer perfection for the emotions that run through him.The last ...

Best Movie Ever... For Bukowski Fans
This is my favorite movie of all time. Bukowski wrote the screenplay which draws from various short stories and novel chapters that he had written about his younger days as a disillusioned and unemployed drunk who dabbled in poetry. Bukowski wrote a book about the making of this film, titled Hollywood. And that's a good read, if you like the movie. In the book, Bukowski talks about how ...

Please, Please Release on DVD!!!
Another gem that somehow fell through the cracks, despite its Academy Award-nominated performaces by Ellen Burstyn and Eva Le Gallienne. With so much junk on DVD, why does Resurrection remain mysteriously absent? Makes absolutely no sense to me. Hmmph.

Saw

An enjoyable watch
First, to put my review in perspective, realize that I am biased towards the novel. It is one of the finest pieces of literature in the English language. I especially enjoy the development of the characters, the masterful orchestration of the plot, and the subtle wit and humor throughout the novel. It's an absolute masterpiece. There is no way that a movie of reasonable length (a few ...

Stone Fox9 reviews

Stone Fox
Warning if you are sensitive this may not be the movie for you. It is about a boy named Little Willy whoes Grandpa gets sick and Little Willy has to take care of him. Then Little Willy enters his dog Morgan in a dog sled race, for much needed money. But he will have to compete against the unstopable Stone Fox. ( This is the time to bring out the tissues) poor Morgans heart gives way. Then Stone ...

To Sir, with Love97 reviews
Sidney Poitier, Christian Roberts

RCA/Columbia Pictures Home Video, 1967

Timeless Classic!
TSWL has been a favourite of mine for many years. They picked a really great cast to make this film. Although made and set in 1960s London there are certain things that are still relevant to todays world; problem kids no teacher wants in his/her class, racial profiling & stereotyping. This film shows how one man (Poitier) made a difference in trying to tackle these problem at the time. My ...

Walt Disney Video, 1997

"Bob's Your Uncle"
Released in `64 `Mary Poppins' is without question one of the most beloved movies in Disney's vast vault of wonderful family film classics. I was twelve years old when `Mary Poppins' made its theatrical debut and I must admit that I immediately fell madly in love with Julie Andrews. Obviously I wasn't the only one considering the fact that Julie Andrews won the Academy Award for Best Actress for ...

Tomorrow Is Forever18 reviews
Lois Austin, George Brent

MGM (Video & DVD), 1998

A brilliant melodrama
Possibly Welles' most underrated role. His performance is simply superb, as are the others in the cast. Also watch for Natalie Wood, astonishingly accomplished in this role that required that she perfect a foreign accent, and show a trememdous range of emotion at the age of what, perhaps 5 or 6? Claudette Colbert shows why she was one of the top female actresses of her era and beyond. Dialogue a ...
