A New Leaf62 reviews
Rose Arrick, James Coco

Paramount, 1998

An absolute gem of a movie!
Let's play Name Your Favorite Comedy. "Good Morning, Vietnam," "As Good as It Gets,"and "Little Miss Sunshine." Yes, yes, all good. Now consider "A New Leaf." Thought so. You've never heard of it. And that's a shame because this is my favorite comedy and that of other reviewers on this page. Why? Walter Matthau, a superb actor in any movie, stars with Elaine May, little known as an actress. ...

Dead Solid Perfect18 reviews
Randy Quaid, Kathryn Harrold

Warner Home Video, 1994

golf life as it used to be
As a former tour player now out of the game, this film captures alot of what the PGA tour used to be. The race to "Monday Qualifiers" by what we were referred to as "rabbits" was filled with alot of the shenanigans this movie portrays. I'm sure the PGA wasn't especially thrilled with the movie, but this system produced greats like Trevino, Rodriguez, and many more. Would love to see this movie ...

The Long, Long Trailer80 reviews
Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz

MGM (Warner), 1994

PLEASE put this hilarious classic on DVD!!
What a fantastic pairing of the classic Luci & Desi comedy team, even while "I Love Lucy" was still airing before live audiences. An initial fun point was the change of 'Lucy & Ricky' to 'Taci & Nicky'. Both my parents and I saw this aired on TV, and laughed so hard we were repeatedly wiping our tears as Taci fell out the tilted trailer into the mud, was tossed with the salad while Nicky serenely ...

The Ma & Pa Kettle Collection: The Egg and I15 reviews
Claudette Colbert, Fred MacMurray

Universal Studios, 1995

Loads of Family Fun!
This warm and funny account of a newly married couple trying to make a go of it on a backwoods chicken farm, based on Betty MacDonald's popular best seller, was a big hit with audiences during the 1940's and has lost none of its appeal today. This is a great film the entire family can watch together. Chester Erskine produced, directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Fred F. Finklehoffe in this ...

Year of the Comet19 reviews
Penelope Ann Miller, Tim Daly

Polygram Video, 1998

"I can't believe we're doing all this for a beverage."
Tim Daly seems to be known more for his moments on television than for his ventures into motion picture. He really just doesn't have a lot of defining roles in cinema. In the small screen, he starred memorably in WINGS and then, more recently, in the very short lived THE FUGITIVE and THE NINE. And, lest the fanboys forget, he was the voice of the WB's animated Superman in the mid to late '90s. ...

Everyone Says I Love You79 reviews
Alan Alda, Ami Almendral

Walt Disney Video, 1998

Satirical Musical
I taped this movie a couple of months ago and didn't watch it right away because I read that it was a musical. I wasn't coming up with any good images of Woody Allen doing song and dance. Boredom prompted me to take a look and I liked what I saw. The plot of the movie is standard Woody Allen; Relationships and their discontents. Whether drama or comedy, Woody does these very well and this ...

Sixteen Candles194 reviews
Molly Ringwald, Anthony Michael Hall

Universal Pictures, 1992

A near-perfect teen comedy
"Sixteen Candles" is arguably the most well known film the the 1980s John Huges teen-film cannon. The film is the exact picture of high school as we try to imagine it as kids, and exactly what we remember when when we are reminescing as adults. The film centers upon Molly Ringwald as we follow her around on her sixteenth birthday. Like all girls, Samantha has been building up her ...

Totally entertaining. Heartwarming and funny, and Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell are simply magical together. I enjoyed every minute and even applauded at the end.

It Happened One Night99 reviews
Clark Gable, Claudette Colbert

Classic
Great classic movie the way they used to be made. Youngsters probably will not "get" this movie, but those of us over 50 can relate. Ignore the remakes, they stink.

Very good movie
I'd like to say first that I am not an Austen fan. I generally don't like the movies made about her books, nor do I like her books. However, this movie was cute. I would assume that is because it doesn't catch the essence of Austen's works like some people say it doesn't, and since that very essence is what I don't like, I loved this movie. If you're really into Austen books, try the other ...

A thoroughly enjoyable taste of Mykonos, Greece...but hold the retsina
With 146 five star reviews ahead of mine, I don't think I can add much to convince anyone that this is an absolutely wonderful movie. In fact, I'm not going to try. Suffice it to say, my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed watching Shirley "grow back" from the mature, home-and-hearth-weary, 42-year-old British housewife she is to the young schoolgirl she once was without all the insecurity and ...

... Bermuda Expeditions
"The right frame for a Renoir" [Philip Shayne alias Cary Grant] of a special fineness and charm ... and under the shower only the rich dandy "eventually" discovered, that it is only him to tame the soaked lady - who, following the sayings about Adam & Eve, is better than apples - by finally hitching her up A paddle, dreams of global journeys and vitreous bathtubs, utmost luxury as well as room ...

"I hired her for my children"...."Adopt me?!"
"With that fine Italian hand that can't cook, or sew, or even do the laundry - you've managed to put a family back together again..." I just recently purchased HOUSEBOAT (1958) and watched it for the first time and Cary Grant was never better than when he stars with Sophia Loren. They look made for each other! And the gorgeous clothing...you can definitely tell an Edith Head design! Stunning! ...

Gidget (1959)27 reviews
Sandra Dee, James Darren

Sony Pictures, 1996

Young again...
I highly recommend this movie for everyone. A clean cut, fun movie that you don't have to worry about due to bad language. I loved this movie when I was growing up so I bought Gidget for my daughter. She had her friends over, teenage boys and girls, and all loved it. In fact the boys kept asking when we were going to watch it again.. Too bad it isn't available on DVD.

Harold & Maude (Aniv)299 reviews
Harvey Brumfield, Eric Christmas

Paramount, 1997

I haven't lived ... but I've died a few times ...
Hal Ashby's masterpiece Harold and Maude is so many people's favourite movie, that it's mind-boggling. When the film was released in 1971 it was panned by the bulk of the reviewers and was thought of as something that would be quickly forgotten as it was not easy for the Academic journalists to pigeonhole. Both, Bud Cort and Ruth Gordon won Golden Globes for best Actress and Best Actor that year ...

The April Fools23 reviews
Jack Lemmon, Catherine Deneuve

20th Century Fox, 1998

My All Time Favorite Movie
I was working in a movie theater when "The April Fools" first came out. Once the customers were seated, I had a choice of watching either this movie or the then mega hit The Graduate. I saw The Graduate just once. I watched The April Fools over 50 times. I've watched it every time it showed on TV over the past 35 years. I own it, and I'll buy the DVD when I find it. And I'll continue to ...
