Tai Chi for Life - Chen Style Tai Chi [VHS]1 review
Guangzhi Xing

Likes and dislikes...
Likes: The Chen style is one of the most graceful and dynamic of tai chi styles. Master Guangzhi Xing is a skilled practicioner and demonstrates the form in a flowing, aesthetic grace and power. The demonstration of the complete forms is very pleasing to the eye and makes you want to learn the style. Dislikes: When the form is broken down in elements to teach the form, he covers too many ...

Shadow Magic (Sub) [VHS]14 reviews
Jared Harris, Yu Xia

Sony Pictures, 2002

Universal themes wrapped in a unique package
Only at the beginning of this movie do you strain with captions. As you progress they become almost second nature and you are transported into the story. I was surprised as the basic story on the surface seems to tell of how people deal with new technology. This is the introduction of moving pictures or "Shadow Magic." The reality of the story is the friendship of two people Raymond Wallace ...

This is #2 in his two-part series but ...

Xing Yi Nei Gong [VHS]1 review

Tapeworm, 2000

The Book is Sufficient
First of all let me say I have the utmost respect for the authors. The book is excellent. However, the video adds little insight (At least it didn't for me). The video simply demonstrates the 16 exercises described in the book. There are no further explanations or elaborations. Unless you have no familiarity at all with slow qi gong (taiji-like) movements the video will put you to sleep. The ...

Authentic Kung Fu Usage

Self, 1996

Having spent decades studying Kung Fu aDAM Hsus demonstration of authentic usage is of the highest order. What isnt said in the tape is that his usage gives the particular flavor of each style demonstrating such diverse methods as Longfist, Lost Track, 7 Star Mantis, the rare 6 Harmony Mantis, Ba Ji, Pi Qua and Xing Yi. A well-done explication of the relation of forms to functions. People who have never seen authentic Chinese boxing may be ...

Ji Wang, Zhiwen Wang

First Run Features, 1999

marvelous chinese movie
It's quite hard to find a fine chinese movies these days, especially Hongkong movies with lots of blood and action. But this moving drama is really great movie. Great performances, and really touching. If you like a great drama movie, you have to check this out. You won't be dissapointed.

Quitting (Sub) [VHS]11 reviews
Fengsen Jia, Xiuling Chai

Sony Pictures, 2003

One clarification
After reading earlier reviews, just want to clarify one thing. While most of the roles in the movie were played by the actual people, Hongsheng's sister is an exception. Hongsheng's sister is actually performed by Tong Wang (Biandan, guniang), a professional actress. Hongsheng's real-life sister was the one who first found out Hongsheng's drug problem. She didn't inform their parents at ...

Xia ri fu xing [VHS]7 reviews
Sammo Hung Kam-Bo, Sibelle Hu

One of Jackie's best.
The fight scenes in this are incredible. Jackie Chan, Yuen Biao, Andy Lau, Sammo Hung, and Richard Norton all have some of the best fight scenes. The routine with Sammo and his freind trying to get into bed with a girl is pretty cheesy, but hey! You watch Jackie Chan movies for action not for Oscar caliber performances! Come on! I rank this one up there with his other fine martial arts movies.

Tai Chi for Life - Sun Style Tai Chi [VHS]1 review
Guangzhi Xing

I love this guys voice
This is a decent tape on Sun style tai chi. It has some people (americans) being interviewed who talk a lot of new age rubbish. And the narration is kind of "new agey", but I love the narraters tone and direction. Quickly goes through the 8 pieces brocade chi kung routine. Then goes through the full tai chi routine, then he breaks each movement down. As being one of the only tapes on Sun style, I ...
